The Witchfinder: general Halloween Inspired Artwork (Pershore Exhibition, October 2007) In the war-torn 17th Century, an Essex man called Matthew Hopkins claimed to be able to cast out Witches, and went on to scour East Anglia, judicially murdering a lot of people under his title of Witchfinder General. Or rather Witchfinder: general, as he pointed the finger at virtually anyone if he got paid. We like to think that in the afterlife, Hopkins is getting a taste of his own medicine on Halloween, during visits from the real thing. Glenn based his image on Vincent Price, who was memorably nasty in the role on film. Purchase this Print |
