The White Lady of Grafton Manor Illustration for Ghosts, Murders and Scandals by Anne Bradford The Spirit of Grafton Manor has a long history. Legends say she was killed by Sir Humphrey Stafford (in Henry VIII's reign), after she was exposed as a witch for turning her son into a Wild Boar, whom she then used to murder her husband and 30 retainers! This was Glenn's first real opportunity to draw a Witch, and he was haunted by the vision of this hook-nosed withered woman in a tattered dress walking with evil intent across the water towards the observer. When he first showed an interest in ghost stories as a child, it was due to his grandmother's tales about a Witch, in historical Selly Oak Village. This illustration was influenced by his grandmother Lydia's early ghost stories. Purchase this Print Purchase the Book |
