Sumer Icumen In The Green Man and Green Lady Welcome the Summer Sun Glenn has wanted for some time to develop work celebrating the great Pagan Festivals and dates of the year, and 'Sumer Icumen In' is his first drawing in realising that ambition. Drawn to celebrate the Midsummer Solstice, and the sun at the zenith of its summer strength, the drawing was named in honour of the well known and well loved ancient English Lay 'Sumer is Icumen In'. The drawing sees The Green Man and Green Lady garlanded and crowned with wreaths of oak leaves, and emerging from tree trunks. They are holding hands in a loop for the circle of new life, and through their joined hands can be seen the sun rising over Stonehenge for the Solstice. They both have young corn in their hair and around their wrists, and are each flanked by a symbol of the smiling sun. Purchase this Print |
