King Charles The First's Executioner Illustration for Ghosts, Murders and Scandals by Anne Bradford Not only a haunting of Cookhill Priory, but an intriguing piece of historical gossip, which it's now impossible to verify. The Haunting led to the discovery of a portrait of Charles I and two letters. These were the confession of a Worcestershire woman, who claimed that her husband had drawn-straws, lost, and was obliged to execute King Charles! These letters were then destroyed before anyone could verify them, by vandals breaking into the church! (Or was it Roundheads?) Glenn photographed the historical re-enactment of the Battle of Worcester, on its 350th Anniversary, like a 17th Century War Correspondent, and used the pictures to get a real period feel for the old assassin.
