Jasper and David The QC and the Apprentice Mortician Jasper Thames the Barrister and David Barecandle, (an apprentice Mortician) are united by a mutual friendship with Skaler, and both take to looking for the Prince after a particularly nasty encounter in 1888. David in fact develops such a morbid interest in criminal cases that he takes to spending most of his time at the Old Bailey; much to the annoyance of his grandfather, who would rather that he spent more time learning the family business, and cannot understand the youth's reluctance to spend all day administering to corpses in the family morgue.
