Dracula's Landfall: Whitby 1885

Dracula's Arrival in Whitby

This piece is drawn in full Pre Raphaelite Goth Style and we are immensely proud to have been asked to contribute a work to the Dracula Experience.  Dracula has been a lifelong inspiration, and Glenn has wanted to undertake his own interpretation for some years.

He went for a cross between Stoker's description and an older Vlad the Impaler.  The Count has a widows quiff, which seems only right for Dracula, and his long white hair is blown by the raging storm as he comes ashore on Tate Hill Sands, with the beached Demeter behind him. He is just changing back to human shape, and his feet are still those of a werewolf.  There is a trace of imperial purple about his clothes, as Stoker called him the King of his Kind, and the symbol of The Order of the Dragon is visible on the clasps of his cloak.  He carries a cane with a gold handle shaped like a flying bat, and the moon haunted Whitby Abbey is visible on the headland.
